Reflections...

So, the last requirement of this assignment is that I post a paragraph (in English) talking about the experience of keeping a blog in Spanish, the positives and negatives of the assignment, and that kind of thing.

I feel like having to keep a blog in Spanish was a good idea in theory, but the way it actually worked could have been better. I liked the idea of it because it seemed like a casual style of assignment, and lots of people like keeping blogs to express their ideas in an informal way, anyway (myself included). But the actual task - to write a description, a report, an argument and a narration - was an extremely unnatural way of keeping a blog. There are blogs that publish opinion pieces, blogs that publish stories, etc. but they tend to limit themselves to one or two genres, not post one thing in every genre. I also felt that there wasn't really enough interaction in terms of classmates commenting on each other's blogs, but that's probably because it all felt artificial and no one cared. I'm not sure it'd be improving the assignment at all to mandate more comments. As for positives, though... it was both a blessing and a curse to have to write about the vague topic "society", but mostly a blessing because it meant I could write about anything I wanted and nothing would be irrelevant. Also, I prefer 20% of my mark being based on this task than something difficult like those quizzes on the textbook's website. So that's good. Ultimately, I think if the assignment had just been a little more casual, tending more towards free expression, it'd have been better.
